My mother’s words of wisdom.

Sunday, June 16, 2013

Although it’s father’s day today (Happy Father’s Day, dad!!), I was just thinking about the words of wisdom I hear from my mother.

My mom is probably one of the most quotable people - ever.

She has the funniest reactions to everything and over the years, has given me pretty awesome advice… which I then pass on as my own to other people. Smile with tongue out

And because I feel that being selfish isn’t very nice, I’ve decided to share some gems my mother has told me over the years. (Lightly paraphrased lah.)

Ladies and gentlemen, put on your best motherly accent and read these words of wisdom to yourselves!

"Always find something nice to say about things people give you whether you like it or not. They didn’t have to give you anything, but they did."

"Don't take things from people who could possibly want something from you in return."
(Basically in relation to receiving gifts from boys who like you.)

"Let the boy wait a little while. Come watch TV for two minutes. If he waits now, he'll wait later."

“Don’t make people wait for you! You’re not the queen, you know.” Annoyed

"Don't ever carry fake bags. You carry one now, no matter how many authentic ones you buy, people will remember you carry fakes."

"Stop frowning! Smile! Be pleasant. Everyone likes to see a smiling face."

"Keep your room neat and tidy. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Or at least, don't throw everything around like it's a dump."

"Your dad works so hard. Go get him a glass of water to greet him when he comes home."

"The number of hours you spend on the phone can equal to the number of hours you could have been studying."

"Study now, don't come to me crying later if you do badly."

"Ahh, don't cry. You already did what you could, just leave it up to God. Don't worry about it anymore. Come, I cook for you bird's nest."

"Wear black! Just because someone's fat, doesn't mean they have to look fat."

"Always make sure you're secure and stable. No matter what rich or poor man you marry, make sure you can support yourself so in case of emergencies, you can pack up and leave and never be helpless."

"Don't chase after the man. If he really wants you he'll come.”

“Never ever go out with someone because you pity them. You like then only you go.”

"Always carry a pack of tissue with you in your bag. Surely someone will need it wan."

"Don't simply post things online. Someone will find them one day and the police will catch you."

"It is always better to overdress than to underdress."

And my personal favourite,

"Mom, I emo."
"Come, let's go get cake."

    1. Hahahhaha, produces children of the year. Chehhhh. :P

  2. Hahahahahah, first say ask the boy to wait, then she say don't let people wait for u.

    Isn't it a little contradicting?

    1. Hahaha, yeah exactly that's sort of half the point. She also then tells me not to cry, then consoles me when I do. :P

Haha, but the advice is still relevant! It just requires a little more application. ;)
