I realize now that it is probably best I actually let people know when things happen in my life because although I’ve been a very diligent blogger (of late), I’m not a very efficient one and posts tend to come up months after an event has occurred.
AND THUS.. On the 13th of September, I went for a turbinectomy and septoplasty.
“Deviated septum surgery (septoplasty) is surgery to correct a deformity in the nasal septum. Turbinectomy is the surgical reduction or removal of an enlarged turbinate (nasal tissue) inside the nose. Both surgeries are done mainly to improve airflow or improve sinus drainage but may have other purposes such as nosebleed control.”
To be honest, how I ended up undergoing this surgery was due to something that happened back when I was in Taiping rather than nosebleeds. I was sharing a bed with my brother and in my sleep, my brother said he heard me choke, spazz a little, then continue sleeping.
Turns out, I was experiencing symptoms of sleep apnea, which is a sleep disorder that’s characterized by shallow breathing or pauses in breathing during sleep. Basically means there are periods of time when I stop breathing. Now, as a child, I used to suffer from sleep apnea and as a result, had to undergo a tonsillectomy to remove my tonsils and widen my airway.
Now let’s take a moment to be grateful for all the new knowledge we have gained today.
Since I pretty much don’t have my tonsils, appendix, and turbinates, I would say my lack of these three organs should give me a free pass to parking at those disabled lots.
*ba dum tss*
JUST JOKING, I DON’T DRIVE. LOLOLOL. –.-
Pathetic jokes aside, I went for a check up and found out that my turbinates were so enlarged that only a marginal amount of air was able to enter my nasal tract. A surgical appointment was scheduled and in 4 days, I was back at Princecourt Medical Centre for another surgery. You can read about my appendectomy here!
For easier consumption, here’s how the surgery went in bite sized portions!
BEFORE
Trying to look glam before the surgery. See how I have slight tendrils of escaped hair framing my face lololol. Yeah, they made me tuck ALL of that in later.
I had a slightly ominous view of KLCC from my bed! Very nice at night though!
AFTER
(this section could be slightly disturbing)
I was put under general anaesthesia, went for surgery at about 9am and was conscious by 12pm.
I really do not understand why we have to be naked when the surgery was just for my face. T.T
Haha, post nose job. I pretty much gave up trying to look good after the surgery because my nose hurt so badly and I was bleeding so much!
In a few minutes..
And about half an hour later, there was so much blood that I had to get my bandage changed.
In fact, I had to change my shirt when they changed my bandage because I accidentally sneezed and blood splattered everywhere!
HAHA, I am disgusting. Is anyone even still reading? Yes?
Okay, shall resume!
The throat and nose are all connected and I had a huge dilemma between sitting up and lying down. Whenever I sat up, my nose would bleed, but whenever I lied down, the blood would flow to the back of my throat. I had to learn that the hard way and ended up collecting a lot of blood in my phlegm. And so..
Okay, you deserve an award if you’re still here. Kudos to you! But the worst is over so you all can relax!
I had to stay overnight so they could administer antibiotics in that ridiculously gigantic syringe (which hurt like crazy homg).
FOOD
As usual, Princecourt serves pretty good food and I enjoyed my meals there save for the fact that they were all cold. The doctor didn’t let me have any warm food because it would aggravate the nose and cause further bleeding.
Ewww. Cold porridge. Worst meal of the lot!
COMPANY
It’s no surprise that I had Dustin with me! I’m turning 19 tomorrow and still lugging around a soft toy but no, ladies and gentlemen, I harbour no shame.
Some of my friends dropped by to see me which was really nice of them!!
Ryan, looking absolutely adorable next to the twin towers.
Shane, being very sad.. For some reason.
Baby J dropped by too and brought me a super cute Rilakkuma! Look at how Dustin looks so sad and downcast thanks to the new addition to the family, hehehe. En Leang came by as well!
It’s so nice that you guys actually took the time to visit me. Although I wasn’t hospitalized for very long, it’s heartwarming to know that I have friends who would go out of their way to make me feel better and I appreciate it so much. :’)
All in all, it was a pleasant stay LOL and I’m recovering well! I have to go back to the doctor’s tomorrow for yet another check up though but I’ve stopped bleeding for the most part, except for a few incidents every now and then so all’s good.
ANDDD, I got a new pendrive!
Um.. Thank you, Prince Court.
Have a great day, folks! Tomorrow’s my birthday so I’m really excited because I love love love birthdays! I know I’ll have a fantastic day, and I hope you do too!
